FULL SNOW MOON

At 12:45 a.m. ET (or 10:45 p.m. here in Arizona), we will be under the second full moon of 2007. Since the heaviest snow usually falls during this month, native tribes of the north and east most often called February's full moon the Full Snow Moon. Some tribes also referred to this moon as the Full Hunger Moon, since harsh weather conditions in their areas made hunting very difficult.

The Cherokee called it the
Bony Moon, while Dakotah Sioux called it Moon of the Raccoon, or Moon When Trees Pop. Colonial Americans called this moon Trapper's Moon; but in China their view was a tad different = Budding Moon.

In my mind's eye, a picture comes quickly as I read each title. That makes me smile (the exception is
Full Hunger Moon and even though I try to whiz past THAT title, my warp speed thought process has already conjured up pictures of starving children with haunting eyes.) Note to self: remember to work on my effort to 'quiet my mind'.

I share with you, my interpretation of
Full Snow Moon. Tinted in Picasa, this is my favorite of all time images to use in my artwork.

My wish for you tonight is that wherever you are or whatever timezone you happen to be in, that you have the ability to see the glorious and gorgeous full moon.

Well, we did have a lovely full moon last night, of course, and then today a snowstorm is in the works........just this evening some little angel like faerie flakes started to fall. So, it really is a full snow moon here in N.J. I loved your "history lesson" and think you should have had a career in publishing/writing/research, etc.!!!!
Love from,
Audra Mae
