ARE THESE NOT GLORIOUS JEWELS??!!

It's always about art in a way, isn't it? I headed to Ulta to pick up some hair product and could not resist looking at and handling the bottles of nail polish at the OPI counter. They are just little jewels!! Well, I DID need a new polish and could not decide between a "safe" sort of mauve or the crazy blue that I had on my toes after a pedicure last month....oh, such decisions.......heck, why not get both?! THEN, what do I see? Buy two get one free!!! OMG! So here they sit on my bathroom vanity counter. I cannot bear to open them and ruin the glorious "eye candy" they provide me. Who says I have to?!! Posted by Picasa

"Zetti-fied" postcard art Saturday, June 24th

I have been a Zetti fan for many years and love how "outside the box" there images and ideas are. How fun it was to be introduced to a group who also love Zetti and swap out post cards regularly. This is the first card I made about Zetti manners. Basically Zetti galz 'know when to leave the party'........such fun! Check out Tracy and Teesha Moore's art and images. www.zettiology.com

MEDICINE PEOPLE Sculpture by Sergeff Suomi

I got this sculpture at a wonderful gallery in Madrid, New Mexico, called Painted Horse Gallery during our vacation to Santa Fe two weeks ago. We took Highway 14, better known as the Turquoise Trail, from Santa Fe to Albequerque, in order to scout out this rather hippie, artsy, mining town of about 400 residents because it not only sounded pretty cool..but there was a coffee-botique-Bed&Breakfast for sale. Since our little cafe is loosing it's lease the end of this year we are scrambling to see what to do next. What a cool place. Accordiing to the literature with the sculpture, the Medicine People represent the spirits of the earth. They are amulets of elemental power. They tell her what they want to be as she is forming them.

MEDICINE PEOPLE:

The land here is sacred
and the spirits that live in the rocks
and earth are visible to some.

The Peacock feather represents dignity, wealth, to master one's destiny.

This piece spoke to me before I actually read the literature and that makes the choice even more serendipitous.  Posted by Picasa

Sculpted Faerie face/bust

This is going to be a Snow Queen Faerie.
Sculpted from polymer clay,
she is sweeter than sweet.

She will be a posable fae,
with a gorgeous crown made from another artist
that is so perfectly snowy.
This one will take me a while. Posted by Picasa

The strart of my newest and smallest faerie

I just began this little one.
As you see she will fit inside a matchbox...
I have so many ideas on where to go with her.
Stay tuned!! :) Posted by Picasa

Stirring up the embers.

It seems not THAT long ago I created a bit of art
every day....ATC's, altered books,journaling,
altered calendars..everything possible.

I am so grateful for that time in my life
and for the wonderful friends I made
and shared with.

I am grateful now for the ability to step back in
again and open the door of creativity that I closed
(sort of - I'm not sure you can ever really close it shut once you've opened it)

and I find my mind racing with the possibilities
of the next project.
Hoping to make new art friends
and maybe, just maybe, find some of the ones
I had to leave behind for a while.

What I DO know is that the passion and ability
to create never really dies...
the fire is always there...
waiting like embers to be stirred up.

111 degrees is not for humans

I stopped looking at the temp for the day when it hit 111. I felt that was all my brain could handle since I am convinced that this is beyond what the human body should endure. Yes, I know it's the desert..........yes, I know I have lived here since 98. BUT IT IS WAY TO EARLY TO BE FEELING LIKE I AM LIVING IN A FURNACE!! That's one of the problems here in AZ, there are really only two seasons. Stunning and Hell. I long for my East coast Spring where things begin to turn an amazing bright green with bursts of color from the cherry trees and daffodils. I miss gentle rain and the sound of wind rustling in the trees. Hot wind across cactus does not seem to make the same soothing sound. O.K., enough complaining.

Postcard

One of my all time favorite art projects is making postcards. I think doing up a little piece of art and then sending it off to someone is being rewarded twice.  Posted by Picasa

Pocket Faerie Swap

A group of pocket faeries I made this weekend for an ArtChix swap. I love this sweet little image I got from ArtChix. Her expression is priceless. The really great thing is that this is the first time in over seven years of art exchanges that I actually made an extra one to keep. So many art projects and nothing to show for it. Finally I learn. Posted by Picasa

My recent trip to Santa Monica to see Ashes & Snow. What an amazing exhibit this is. Take a peek at
  • Ashes & Snow
  • to see this amazing work. Stayed at the lovely Georgian Hotel and enjoyed the ocean from the porch-dining area. Gorgeous weekend and my very first visit to Santa Monica. Hard to believe that I could not convince anyone to travel along and see this incredible venue!
