RECYCLE THOSE PLASTIC GIFT OR COFFEE CARDS

This is a new obsession I've begun. It's altering any hard plastic gift card and transforming them into little pieces of art. This is piece #1. The back of this card simply states "Emily always had unusual pets." It's rather scribbled in white pen as if written by a child. I am thinking of trading these little gems and will consider how I'd like to go about this. Perhaps I will host a little swap right here on my blog. I will also leave some here and there for strangers to find and enjoy. that is part of the found-art movement that started several years ago and I am part of. Anyone out there have a card you can alter? Come play in my sandbox and we can trade these fun pieces. e-mail me or add a comment right here. Start by covering front and back with gesso. Then let the fun begin as you create rich color and texture. On the back write a tiny blip that would go along with the artwork on the front. Don't forget to sign your name somewhere. Cindy...this card is gorgeous and i love that little fish she is holding. I must lead a sheltered life since I don't drink coffee so I don't know what a coffee card is :o) Don't have a gift card either :o( I love your idea to alter them...so clever.

by the way...been looking at your art here on your blog and absolutley love it. will be back for more eye candy.

Audrey,
Thanks so much for visiting and for your kind comments. I am doubting you lead a sheltered life LOL Starbucks and Coffee Bean & Tea leaf have these plastic gift or credit cards that you can put money on and then use each time you go in. They are the same as credit cards in size and feel which is just a tad smaller than ATC's. I love the how sturdy they are and don't buckle or bend like normal ATC's I guess. It's a new passion. I would love to swap one of my newest ones for an ATC if you'd like since you don't do these (yet) :) Trust me, though, you might get hooked if you start. e-mail me at faerieluna@cox.net if you'd like

Kathy,
Thanks for visiting and for your comments. It feels like a little family when visitors return! You don't have to receive these cards...you simply "find" them when you are at the coffee shops. Last night I pulled out a hotel key card and started altering it. You don't have to return those cards when you check out and I seem to have a stash of them that I saved for mixed media maddness technique of schmeering paint on paper to use in projects.

Maija,
Thanks for the comment and visiting..yes, leaving art bits here and there is very fun.

How cool. You can "find" these in a rack at the front door at wally's world too. I've always loved the idea of leaving found art. I have never done it but I plan to. Inspired
